So Allsports had it right for the Conference Championships of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Sports news and sports on the web. If you scroll back to allsports last post, you will see that the prediction was spot on this time around. Chicago in seven games in the west and Tampa in seven games in the east. I have to point out when predictions for the Stanley Cup playoffs go as planned because more times than not, they never turn out the way you think. The parity in the NHL makes for uncertainty in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
So the two conference championships of the Stanley Cup playoffs were very entertaining to say the least. In the East Henrik Lundqvist was great but could not hold off a potent Tampa Bay attack. There was just too much offense for the goal challenged Rangers to overcome which was more or less what Allsports indicated when he picked Tampa in seven games.
In the West it was much the same story. Chicago just had too many weapons for Anaheim to try and control. Frederik Andersen played well in the Ducks net but Corey Crawford was his equal and then some. The Hawks puck movement ultimately got to Andersen and he was left in no man’s land on a couple of pretty Hawks goals.
So really at the end of the day for both of these Stanley Cup series, Chicago’s best players were their best and the same could be said for the Tampa Bay Leadership. Both Captains, Steve Stamkos for the Lightning and Jonathan Toews for the Hawks lead by example and guide their teams through their game sevens. Toews got the Hawks off to a fast start with the first two goals and the Ducks could never recover, while Stamkos led his teammates with some points but more with his aggressive play and finishing his checks in the Bolts Stanley Cup playoff series win.But with both of these elite players, it is more than just stats.
So now we are down to the Stanley Cup Final between the two teams that have endured through the sixteen teams that started the Stanley Cup tournament. Tampa Bay gets home ice advantage and is a little younger than the Chicago Black Hawks. But the Hawks have the experience of being there before and winning it back in 2013. The core players are more or less the same as they were in that Stanley Cup Championship season.
This promises to be a great Stanley Cup for offense, speed and skill. Both teams have sure proven that they can light the lamp and score some goals. What it will depend on is who can score more and or keep the other squad from bulging the twine in their net. So who wins this very entertaining match up for the Stanley Cup hardware.
We have two of the best young players in the game leading their respective teams into battle. Both have proven worthy. Steve Stamkos is a couple of years younger than Jonathan Toews but captain serious has weathered more Stanley Cup finals. This should be a very entertaining Stanley Cup Final. Both teams play the same style of game, which is high tempo, fast puck movement, scoring off the rush. Both teams can play a cycle game but the emphasis here will be speed and skill and this Stanley Cup Final should be fun to watch and great for the fans of the game.
Allsports has always been a fan of Toews and would really like him in a Maple Leafs sweater, ya like that would happen. But he seems to be the best team leader of his generation, much like Mark Messier only not quite as nasty. Add to that the supporting cast in Chicago and Allsports is still thinking what he did at the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Chicago will win the Stanley Cup this year in six games, maybe seven. But I like six, it’s a nice round number. The Black Hawks have the issue of the salary cap looming as well. Chances are this team will look a lot differently once next year rolls around.
And that’s the sports news and sports on the web, or the way I see it anyway.
