So up here in Canada, north of the 49th parallel, the 99th Grey Cup game is the big sports news in the print media and on the web. The game is taking place in the newly face lifted BC place in Vancouver. The League is calling it a neutral site game but don’t you believe it. The B.C. Lions will have the “Lions” share of the crowd support.
The game pits the Eastern Conference Champion, Winnipeg Blue Bombers against the Western Conference Champion, B.C. Lions and if previous Grey Cup games are any indication it should be a seesaw battle right down to the final whistle.
So how did the two teams arrive to get to play for the biggest prize in the Canadian Football League?
Out West Travis Lulay threw two TD passes and ran in another as the B.C. Lions defeated the Edmonton Eskimos in the Western Final by a score of 40 -23. Click on the score for the video evidence.
In the East the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ran the ball down the throats of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Bombers defense was stingy in only allowing 3 Tiger-Cat points in the 19-3win. But the story for the day was Winnipeg running back Chris Garrett as he rushed for 190 yards on 29 carries and added a touchdown in the victory.
So there you have it Winnipeg against B.C. for the 99th Grey Cup. Allsports thinks the game will be very close and thrilling right up to the final whistle. In the end the home crowd of the B.C. Lions should give them that little boost to get the victory.
