Super Bowl 49 is coming and it will be taking up most of the print in the sports news and sports on the web. The combatants are set with the New England Patriots representing the AFC and the defending Super Bowl champion, Seattle Sea Hawks coming out of the NFC. Seattle has the chance to repeat as Super Bowl Champions for the first time since their opponent, the Patriots did it a decade ago in 2004 and 2005. Glendale, Arizona is the host of the festivities this year so weather should not be an issue.

So how did these two teams get to Super Bowl 49?

Well in the AFC the Patriots came out from the start and just dominated the Indianapolis Colts in every aspect of the game. Offensively everything was clicking. The running game was great with Blount and the defense snuffed out the Colts running attack and made Luck have to throw the ball on pretty much every down. It is tough to win like that against a good team. Yes the Patriots were quite impressive in the crushing win. Then after the game, controversy reared its ugly head. Inflate- gate started and ended up taking  on a life of its own. It tarnished what would have been a convincing win for New England. It’s not like Bill Belichick has not been caught with his hand in the cookie jar before, some of you may remember a few years back, when he got caught spying on an opponent. So cheat once and there is nothing that says you won’t feel the need to cheat again. The theory that the weather caused the balls to deflate was quite laughable. This would take some seriously cold temperatures and if that was the case, why were all of the Indianapolis Colts team footballs all within the NFL regulation of 12.5 to 13.5 psi? Discuss among yourselves.

The NFL needs to look at this ball issue. It is ridiculous that each team should have its own balls. Both teams should play with the same ball. For that matter the officials should have control over all of the game balls. The way it is now, the door is left wide open for cheats and controversy. Do you really think teams in the NHL have control over the game pucks? Of course not, they are under the control of the officials, the way it should be. Enough side.

In the NFC title game. Green Bay came into Seattle and dominated the whole first half, the Sea Hawks looked like they were sleep walking out there and The Packers built up a 16-0 half time lead. The Packers settled for two field goals early when they were inside the five yard line and Allsports wondered if those decisions would come back and bite them in the ass later. It turned out that they did as the Sea Hawks came back and won the game in overtime. Green Bay was still in control with about a minute left but they screwed up the Seattle on side kick, giving the ball back to the Sea Hawks for another score. If the packers fall on the ball its game over and the Packers are in the Super Bowl. But that is all history now. The Sea Hawks are the defending Super Bowl Champions and like true champions, they found a way to win. This was a great game to watch and neither team deserved to lose.

So now we are down to Super Bowl 49 in Glendale Arizona. Who do you think will win, the Patriots or the Sea Hawks? Both teams were the best in their respective conferences and finished with identical 12-4 regular season records. This matchup is the way the Super Bowl should be.

LeGarrette Blount at 6 feet 250 lbs has given the Patriots a legitimate running game this year to take some of the heat off Tom Brady. Blount should help balance the Patriots out against the Sea Hawks running threat of Marshawn Lynch. Lynch is smaller than Blount at 5’11” and 215 lbs but he is well known for digging in for the extra yards. The Patriots also beefed up their corner back positions with the additions of Darrelle Revis from the Jets and Brandon Browner from the Sea Hawks. These two guys are impact players that make the whole Patriots defence better. Browner by the way used to play for Calgary in the CFL.  Russell Wilson should match Brady at quarterback but Wilson has the legs to scrabble out of trouble when the pocket collapses. The difference maker could be Rob Gronkowski. He will need to be involved if the Patriots are going to win Super Bowl 49. Allsports looks for a great game right down to the two minute warning. I have preached about the Sea Hawks repeating for a while now and I am not about to change my tune. Seattle got a scare last week but Allsports thinks they will repeat as Super Bowl Champions. Besides Allsports does not like teams that try to cheat or bend the rules.

And thats the sports news and sports on the web, or the way I see it anyway.

P.S. On a side note, Martin Brodeur, arguably the greatest NHL goalie ever is finally hanging up the skates and joining the St. Louis Blues front office. What a career Marty had.
