- Well it has been a while since allsports posted anything for sports news and sports on the web. This arose due to technical difficulties beyond my control. At least now the first round of the NHL playoffs are in the books and allsports did not do too badly in the prediction department. If you look at the article posted on april 14th, titled “Allsports and the NHL’s Playoff Season“, you will see that I went 6 for 8 in the opening round.

- Allsports messed up the Montreal, Washington series and the Philly, New Jersey series. I still can’t believe how easily New Jersey went down but maybe Brodeur was tired after playing so many games, after all his is no spring chicken anymore. Brodeur’s goaltending was not the problem though. As for Montreal taking out Washington, I did mention that in order for that to happen Halak would have to stand on his head. Well he did pretty well that in the last three games. Montreal also played better as a team and they blocked a HUGE amount of shots. Halak was unbelievable after Ovechkin opened his big mouth and said Halak was nervous and his hands were shaking. Alex should learn to keep his mouth shut until things have been decided. He also said it would be nice to beat Canada on our own soil during the Olympics and then Team Canada thrashed the Russians good.

- So enough about the last round I am sure you would like to know what allsports thinks will happen in the second round of the NHL playoffs. There may be some surprises and I am sure some will not agree with who I think will move on but that is the great thing about sports. Everyone has their own opinions. Please feel free to comment and give me yours. So here we go with the round two predictions.

- Eastern Conference Logo

- Although Montreal surprised everyone with their win now they play the defending cup champions. Crosby, Malkin and Staal are too strong down the middle and Fleury can match Halak between the pipes. Although allsports would like nothing better than to see a Canadian team advance I just don’t think it will happen. You also have to wonder how much Halak has left in the tank after his great performance against the Capitals. The Penguins will adjust to Montreal’s defence too. You won’t see as many blocked shots. Pittsburgh in Six.
-

- Although the Flyer’s were impressive in taking out the Devils allsports feels they will start to feel the effects of not having Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne in their lineup. You just can’t replace those two guys. Add the fact that Marc Savard has been cleared to play for the Bruins, which will give them a big boost and also help them on the score sheet. Boston has better goaltending as was seen in beating Ryan Miller and the Sabres. The series will likely go six or seven games but allsports feels the Bruins will prevail. Remember always watch out for a good team that had a bad year. Boston in seven.

- Western Conference Logo
- The Western conference is a bit of a wash for allsports and both series will be hard fought and tough to call.

- So I was hoping to have this posted before the game last night but something came up and I didn’t make it. If you checked the sports news or sports on the web you’re already aware that the Sharks built an early lead and then hung on for a 4-3 victory over Detroit to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

- That being said allsports still is of the opinion that Detroit will win the series. It will go the distance likely but the Wings have been there before and have experience on their side. The Sharks will win it if Jimmie Howard implodes in the Detroit net, but I doubt it. The Sharks have all the pressure on them to do well and only a birth in the Cup final will make their season a success. Allsports would like to see the Sharks go through but the head is telling me Detroit. The Wings in seven.

- This series pulls allsports in both directions. The Hawks have always been one of my favorite teams since I was a kid and Bobby Hull skated for the Hawks. But the patriot side wants a Canadian team to do well because our fans deserve it. Vancouver has revenge on their minds after Chicago put them out last year. The Canucks have more weapons this year and if Roberto gets it done in the net they will have a definite advantage over the Hawks in that area. Look for Vancouver to knock the Hawks around a bit and make their defence chase the puck in their end. Vancouver will have to watch because Chicago can score in bunches and they don’t want to trade chances with them. Allsports thinks Luongo will have an impact on the outcome. Canucks in seven.
- So there you have it, Boston and Pittsburgh in the East, with Detroit and Vancouver coming out of the West.
