It’s a North American Olympic Gold medal game
So if you have been following along at home in the sports news or sports on the web, you will know that the Olympic hockey Gold medal game will be an all North American affair. Canada will get another crack at the Americans in the game tomorrow.
You would never get them to admit it but I think the Canadians were looking a bit past the Slovaks in the semi-final because by the time they hit the ice they new that the US had breezed past Finland 6-1. That game was closer than the score indicated. Miikka Kiprusoff was just brutal in the Finland net, allowing 4 goals on something like eleven shots.
Canada jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Slovaks and then held on for a 3-2 victory. The Slovaks played a “kitty bar the door” type of game with four players across the neutral zone, making it difficult for the Canadian side to penetrate their zone. They lulled everyone to sleep including Roberto Luongo who must have been sleeping on the Slovaks first goal. The goal gave the Slovaks confidence and helped them make a game of it. The Canadians figured they were safe and got caught looking ahead to the US. The Slovaks strategy almost paid off for them but in the end they will be playing for bronze.
GOAL
The Slovaks are a veteran team with some very high skill players. Look for them to beat Finland for the bronze. As for the Gold medal game. Ryan Miller will have to play the game of his life for the US to win. He should see more rubber than a Brothel. The US beat Canada in the round robin portion of the tournament, allsports does not think the Canadians will let them do it again.

Allsports would like to mention at this time what a valiant effort that was made by Joannie Rochette in winning the bronze medal in women’s figure skating. It was not the medal that she won but the circumstances she endured to compete. As you have likely heard by now through the sports news or sports on the web, Rochette’s mother passed away last Sunday, shortly after her arrival in Vancouver to watch her daughter compete.

Well compete she did. This girl exhibited the courage and the heart of a lion to compete the way she did in a sport where you have to keep your head on straight and perform with the utmost precision. She has become the allsports athlete of the Vancouver winter Olympics.

By now everyone has seen it, but what a dramatic match! I thought it was all over, but was secretly hoping for a last minute equalizer for the USA. And there it was! 24 sec before the end. We know now it wasn’t enough, but they made sure it was a very exciting gold medal match! And to be fair, Canada was better overall, even though they were beaten by the US earlier. Great for the host country, better luck next time USA!
Miikka is a outstanding goal tender. I wish he was having a better hockey year. He has his moments but I don’t think he’s been himself for a few of hockey seasons now.
